BINUS Semarang’s Immersion Programme: Explore Cultures, Build Connections

The ability to understand and adapt to different cultures has become increasingly essential in today’s world. BINUS Semarang’s Immersion Programme is an exceptional opportunity for students to explore new cultures, forge global connections, and develop essential life skills such as independence and resilience. This year, the secondary students embarked on a transformative journey to Australia, gaining new experiences and creating unforgettable memories.
Day 1: Stepping Into the Future
The excitement kicked off as soon as the students landed in Australia. Their first destination was the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), where they visited the Digital Future Lab.
This innovative space introduced them to cutting-edge technologies and concepts shaping the world’s digital landscape. Students enthusiastically captured moments together, savouring their first taste of Australia’s vibrant culture and forward-thinking environment.
Day 2: Creative Beats and Inspiring Campuses
Day two brought a blend of creativity and academic exploration. Haflah and Rafif from Grade 10A participated in a workshop at the Arts Centre Melbourne, where they delved into the art of electronic music production. Using percussion beats, guitar riffs, and sound effects, they crafted unique compositions, showcasing their newfound skills and creativity.
Later, the students visited RMIT University for a comprehensive campus tour. Nadine, one of the students, shared her excitement: “We had a presentation with Mr. Sam, a university representative, and explored facilities like the lecture halls, art building, and business school. It was an eye-opening experience!”
Kenzie’s group visited the University of Melbourne’s Science Gallery, where they explored the fascinating world of drone technology. Under expert guidance, they learned to programme and fly drones, an activity that combined fun with valuable technical skills.
Day 3: Unleashing Artistic Talent
The third day was all about artistic expression. Jasmine, a Grade 9 student, participated in a workshop at Melbourne’s Art and Gallery. “We worked on sketching, cutting, and spray-painting. Luckily, the instructor gave me a koi fish artwork as a special gift!” she shared enthusiastically. Activities like these encouraged students to think creatively, engage in hands-on learning, and embrace the joy of self-expression.
Life Skills and Global Perspectives
The immersion programme goes beyond cultural exposure to nurture critical life skills and broaden perspectives. Travelling far from home, students developed independence and adaptability as they navigated new environments, engaged with diverse communities, and tackled challenges outside their comfort zones. These experiences also fostered teamwork and communication skills as students worked collaboratively during workshops and activities.
A key highlight was the opportunity to build international friendships and connections. Interacting with peers and professionals in Australia broadened the students’ perspectives, helping them appreciate cultural diversity and understand global issues more deeply. These interactions pave the way for meaningful relationships that may last a lifetime.
The programme also aligns with BINUS Semarang’s vision of preparing students for a globalised future. By exposing them to world-class educational facilities and innovative practices, the programme inspires students to aim higher and dream bigger. Whether they were exploring university campuses, coding drones, or creating art, the students were given a glimpse of the endless possibilities that lie ahead.
Memories to Treasure Forever
The students returned home enriched with experiences that will stay with them forever. From exploring Australia’s vibrant arts scene to engaging in hands-on learning and meeting inspiring individuals, each moment was a stepping stone towards becoming well-rounded, culturally aware individuals.
The journey not only strengthened their academic and creative abilities but also shaped their character, equipping them with the tools to succeed in an ever-changing world.
BINUS Semarang’s Immersion Programme is more than a trip; it’s an investment in the future. It empowers students to step out of their comfort zones, embrace new challenges, and grow into global citizens ready to make a difference. This journey to Australia is just one chapter in the many transformative experiences BINUS Semarang offers. Together, let’s continue to explore cultures, build connections, and inspire the leaders of tomorrow.
