Early Years
Early Years Programme
Building Strong Foundations since Young Age
1. What is Pearson Edexcel curriculum in the EY at BINUS SCHOOL Semarang and how is it implemented?
Pearson Edexcel is a UK curriculum that focuses on structured learning and assessments.
The school is shifting to Cambridge Early Years, which emphasizes exploration, creativity, and building strong foundations.
This approach uses themes, integrates different learning areas, and relies on continuous observation instead of formal tests
2. How does our approach balance play and academic readiness?
We use play-based learning to help children develop language, math, and problem-solving skills through hands-on activities. Sensory experiences are key to learning, development, and wellbeing.
For example, counting blocks during play builds math skills, while role-play improves communication and social interaction. This approach prepares children for formal learning while keeping joy and curiosity alive.
3. How do teachers support each child’s unique learning journey and interests?
Teachers track each child’s progress using Cambridge milestones. Activities are tailored to individual interests for example, using a child’s love for animals in reading or math games. Learning is differentiated through flexible groups, choice-based tasks, and personalized support so every child feels challenged and supported.
4. In what ways do we help children develop social and emotional skills from an early age?
We help children grow socially and emotionally every day. Through circle time, teamwork play, and gentle conflict resolution, they learn to share, cooperate, and manage feelings. Teachers model kindness and respect, using stories and role-play to teach emotional words. This builds confidence, self-control, and strong friendships, skills that last a lifetime.
5. How do we involve parents in the learning process and keep them connected to their child’s growth?
It takes a Village to raise a child. Parents are our partners and we value strong partnerships with families.
You’ll receive weekly updates, digital portfolios, and have opportunities for parent-teacher conferences to stay connected with your child’s learning.
We also invite you to learning celebrations and workshops about child development.
This open communication helps you understand the Cambridge approach and support learning at home.
6. How do we prepare children for a smooth transition to Primary School?
- Preparation begins early with structured routines, gradual introduction of formal skills, and fostering independence (e.g., managing belongings, following multi-step instructions).
- We align Early Years outcomes with Cambridge Primary objectives, ensuring continuity in literacy, numeracy, and inquiry-based learning.
- Our EY3 to Grade 1 Transition Programme begins as early as Term 2.
- We begin with introducing parents to Sensory Learning, and what to expect in Primary
- Our EY3 students transition days include being embedded in grade 1 classrooms, following a grade 1 schedule for parts of their day, and explore the primary student facilities.
Message from the Vice Principal
“At our school, we believe learning starts with wonder. When children explore with open minds and curious hearts, they discover endless possibilities. Our role as educators is to spark that excitement; helping young inventors, thinkers, and dreamers grow through joyful, hands-on experiences. Nothing compares to a child’s “aha!” moment. It reminds us that learning is not just about knowledge; it’s about celebrating small victories and keeping curiosity alive.” – Mr. Tom (Early Years and Primary Affective Coordinator)
