Inside BINUS SCHOOL Semarang’s Primary Makerspace: Future-Ready Learning in Action
Have you ever wondered what a Primary classroom of the future looks like? The Primary Makerspace at BINUS SCHOOL Semarang makes one thing clear; this is no ordinary classroom. Designed to spark curiosity and creativity, it reflects the school’s commitment to future-ready learning.
The Primary Makerspace serves as a workshop where ideas gain form, where imagination is not only encouraged but also expected, and where innovation becomes a natural part of the learning experience.
Stepping into the Makerspace, students encounter a colourful, dynamic setting that balances fun with functionality. What inside our Primary Makerspace:
- A futuristic table that serves as a central hub for brainstorming and hands-on activities.
- A 3D printer, introducing pupils to the world of digital fabrication and design.
- A robotics corner, where pupils experiment with simple coding and technology.
- A large, open layout, allowing freedom of movement, creativity, and collaboration.
- Arts and crafts stations, stocked with materials for pupils to express their creativity.
One of the Primary Makerspace activities saw our Grade 4 students engineer miniature bridges. Working in teams, they planned, built, and decorated their models while exploring basic engineering concepts, problem-solving, and design thinking, aligned with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.

Valerie and Rafandra, Grade 4 students who participated in this project said, “we learned how to measure and cut materials carefully, and the project helped me come up with new ideas whenever something didn’t work. It taught me to be more creative and to keep trying when I faced challenges. We also practiced teamwork and problem-solving throughout the process.”
Through Makerspace, BINUS SCHOOL Semarang reaffirms its commitment to nurturing young innovators who learn by exploring, building, and imagining beyond the classroom
